If you are renting a water purifier or another appliance in South Korea and your housing plans may change, compare quotes at the date you expect to move. A monthly payment tells you little about what you would owe if you moved before the rental term ended. Ask for a written answer for that specific month, even if you ultimately stay longer.
Put the dates on one line
Write down the date the appliance would be installed, the month your lease may end, and the full rental term. Then find the minimum use period in the quote. Korean documents may label the full term as 렌탈기간 and the minimum use period as 의무사용기간. The Korea Consumer Agency distinguishes the two in its guidance on water purifier rentals. Its published case examples show why it is worth asking about charges that may apply even after the minimum period. Korea Consumer Agency guidance
Ask for two estimates for the same month
For the first estimate, ask what it would cost to keep the contract and install the same appliance in your next home. Ask who handles removal and reinstallation and whether the provider can service your new address. For the second estimate, ask what it would cost to end the contract and return the appliance in that same month. Ask the provider to list each charge, including any removal fee or discount repayment that applies under your quote. Where the contract says ownership can transfer, ask what must happen before you can keep the appliance.
Compare the amounts you would actually pay
For each offer, write down the payments through the month you would move, any upfront fees, and the cost of each move or return scenario. Keep any discount that depends on a credit card or another condition in its own column. If you cannot meet the discount conditions consistently, compare the undiscounted amounts first. Request the model number and the version of the written quote so you can check that the numbers you compare refer to the same appliance and service.
렌탈 위키 (Rental Wiki) provides Korean-language rental terms and comparison resources. Use it to identify the terms you want to ask about, then confirm the payment, service, and return conditions in the actual quote before signing.
